Thomas Elder
Private, A Company, 17th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry

Thomas Elder was enrolled in the 17th Infantry on September 6th, 1861. He was in the first group to enroll. He was mustered in on January 3, 1862 at Calhoun for a three year term in Company A. He died October 24th at Bridgeport Alabama, of wounds received in action at Chicamauga September 19, 1863. There are no other entries in the AG Report.

Thomas Elder Co. A, Was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept. 19, 1863. He died five days later at Bridgeport, Ala. Thomas Elder's body was brought back home to Grayson County and was buried at Caney Creek Church near Caneyville. [Barry Goodall]
