Richard L. Taylor was enrolled in the 17th Infantry on November 11, 1861. He was mustered in on January 4, 1862 at Calhoun for a three year term. Transferred to Co. H., which listing says he enrolled on October 3, 1861 - so there is an apparent discrepancy within the report. Retained as 1st Lt on consolidation. Resigned April 23, 1864.

He frist served as a Sgt. in the Cromwell Home Guard. Buried in Ohio County near Sandefur's Crossroads at Brick House Cemetery.[Barry Goodall]
