James A. Curtis enrolled in the 17th Infantry on November 1, 1861. He was mustered in on January 4, 1862 at Calhoun for a three year enlistment in Company G as a private before consolidation He was discharged on Jan 23, 1865 in Louisville with his unit.

Private Curtis is buried in the local cemetery at Centertown, Ohio County, Ky. [Barry Goodall]
