Sampson Simpson's first name is listed as Stantford in the AG Report. He enrolled in the 17th Infantry on October 3rd, 1861. He was mustered in on January 3rd, 1862 at Calhoun for a three year enlistment in Company D. He was transferred to H Company after Consolidation, and was mustered out with his unit on January 23rd 1865. He is buried in the Leach Cemetery in Arnold, Ohio County
